Welcome Back

Attendance at the Go Center has been down all summer, but I think that has mostly been due to people being out on vacation. Now that it is September, and school has started, and it’s back to work, work, work, I hope that we’ll see more of you all back at the Go Center on club events.

Speaking of, over the summer I took a poll and we have new club event times, in case you didn’t notice:

SL Time - Pacific Daylight Time

  • Saturdays, 9am - Noon
  • Sundays, 9am - Noon
  • Thursdays, 6pm - 9pm

GMT - Greenwich Mean Time

  • Saturdays, 4pm - 7pm
  • Sundays, 4pm - 7pm
  • Fridays, 1am - 4am

If these times don’t work for you, drop me a line, and I’ll see if any better times for all emerge.

Zarf, please indicate how one joins … I’m a long time player (33 years), not very strong (10 kyu to 7 kyu) but have taught many players over the years. New to SL…

There are two things to join:

    1) You can join the group called “The Game of Go aka Wei’qi aka Baduk”. You do this in SL, from the search window. If you have trouble, IM me and I can invite you. Being in the group will get you the occasional group notices, and access to the group IM channel.

    2) At the Go Center, at the back of the playing pavilion, there is a wooden “Membership” board on post by the gobans. Touching this board will enable you join the center’s membership list and optionally the ranking system. Being a member means that you’ll be listed on our web site, and be included in the “who’s a the Go Center” counter on the web site home page.
